Lincoln’s first-ever virtual reality room experience:

Escape Reality VR – What is it?

Prepare to enter the world of Virtual Reality!

Have you ever wanted to escape into a world that you can control? Now you can.

Virtual Reality is the computer-generated simulation of a three-dimensional environment that can be interacted with in a seemingly real or physical way by the use of special electronic equipment; in this case, the HTC Vive™ headset.

Escape Reality VR offers the opportunity to become a hero, a hunter, an explorer, or a casual observer within a realistic–but artificial–world. Defend your castle from an enemy horde, fend off zombies in a post-apocalyptic world, play carnival and arcade games as if you’re actually there, or stand atop a mountain and look over miles of countryside.

FAQ

Is there an age limit?

Yes, if you are participating in a virtual reality game, you must be at least 16 years old. Anyone under 18 must have a waiver signed on his or her behalf by a parent or legal guardian.

Will the headset mess up my hair?

The best hairstyle to have during a VR experience is down or tied low. The strap on top of the headset can mess up hair slightly, but the headset is adjustable. As for other attire, dress comfortably and wear flat shoes.

Can I wear glasses during the experience?

Small frames are comfortable, but big bulky frames can make it difficult to fit the headset on comfortably. Contact lenses are suggested in such cases. If you are nearsighted, you can remove your glasses entirely.

What if I get motion sick?

While it is rare, people will sometimes experience motion sickness. We do have one game that comes with a warning of motion sickness before it begins. If you feel uncomfortable, close your eyes, let a staff member know, and we will help you exit the game.

Is there risk of injury?

If a participant follows the rules and guidelines directly, there should be no risk of injury. Virtual Reality is not recommended for pregnant women, epileptics, those who experience vertigo or motion sickness, or those who struggle to bend or crouch low. If at any point you feel uncomfortable, simply close your eyes and focus on your stability. Your game master can stop the game and choose another, or end the session for you.

What type of VR headset do you use?

We use the HTC Vive

How many people can play at one time?

One participant per headset at one time. This is a single player game.

Can I bring a friend to watch?

Sure! We have a screen that allows you to see what the participant is seeing within the experience. Do not bring more than 2 people to watch, as viewing space is extremely limited. We will have a live feed available in our lobby soon!

Where do you get your games?

We download our VR experience games from the Steam Platform.

What games do you have?

The Steam platform has a massive variety of games and experiences for VR. Strategy games, first-person shooter games, escape rooms, horror games, archery games, etc. and a whole list of experiences like the deep ocean, mountaintops, and even your choice of destination in Google Earth. We keep a handful of games to choose from on constant rotation, so you can always return for something new! Ask a staff member about the games currently running for more information.

Do you have to have previous gaming experience?

No, you do not have to have any previous gaming or VR experience. We offer Basic games and Experiences to beginners to help you get started, and a staff member will be able to assist you throughout your session.

What do you mean by Advanced games, Basic games, and Experiences?

During your session, you will have the choice between 3 categories for your Virtual Reality experience: Advanced Games, Basic Games, and Experiences.
Virtual Reality Experiences are non-interactive scenarios that immerse you in a virtual world that you can view, explore, and enjoy without the challenge of participating in any gameplay.
Basic Virtual Reality games are appropriate for all audiences and are typically less complex and time-consuming than an Advanced VR game. Advanced Virtual Reality games are typically more complex, multi-level games that require more time and skill than a Basic VR game. Player discretion is advised, as some of the Advanced game scenarios may not be recommended for all audiences.
